Question 90 4wd

If any of you have seen the weather lately, the east coast is getting a little bit of snow (16+ inches). Anyway, I decided to engage the 4x4 on the way home from work, and was greatly disappointed. It seemed like it engaged, but was completely useless, and when I got on the gas to move (in 4hi) in made a nice metal on metal noise. I just replace the hubs with warns, because the front passenger side didn't engage before, now it is the one making the noise. FYI, a Crown Victoria Interceptor (P71) handled better in the snow with crappy tires. Where do you think the problem may lie?

Don't take offense to this question, but did you lock the hubs in as well? If one hub isn't locking in properly, no power will be sent to the front wheels.

No offense taken. Start with the basic stuff first. Both hubs were in the lock position. In fact that reminds me, I didn't unlock them.

I'm still wondering if both hubs were locking in properly. The clicking from the front is somewhat of a tell tale.

I turned the locking hub back to unlock and back to lock until I heard and felt it click into lock position. I still get the same results.

I took it out of 4wd and disengaged the hubs. The noise is still present.

Is the noise coming from the front passenger corner? When you move the truck, does the front passenger side u-joint move (visible by looking between the steering knuckle & the axle)? Is this u-joint tight?
