If any of you have seen the weather lately, the east coast is getting a little bit of snow (16+ inches). Anyway, I decided to engage the 4x4 on the way home from work, and was greatly disappointed. It seemed like it engaged, but was completely useless, and when I got on the gas to move (in 4hi) in made a nice metal on metal noise. I just replace the hubs with warns, because the front passenger side didn't engage before, now it is the one making the noise. FYI, a Crown Victoria Interceptor (P71) handled better in the snow with crappy tires. Where do you think the problem may lie?
Is the noise coming from the front passenger corner? When you move the truck, does the front passenger side u-joint move (visible by looking between the steering knuckle & the axle)? Is this u-joint tight?
