Default 99 Blazer transfer case motor bad?

How can you tell whether this is the problem for sure? I was told it would cost $350 to have another transfer case motor installed and that just doesn't fit in the budget right now.

Install it yourself?

You know thats the problem by eliminating the other common causes of no 4wd. What issues are you having exactly? Just blinking lights? 4Hi but not lo? Elaborate please.

Thanks and that's all good but this thing acts strangely. Sometimes it won't go from 2 HI to 4 HI. Sometimes it will. Then when it's in 4 HI it sometimes won't go back to 2 HI. However, if I disconnect the battery it defaults back to 2 HI like it should. All in all, it seems that if I fool around long enough pushing buttons I eventually get the button I want lit.

Haha I like your approach!

Have you tried actually servicing the t-case? Low fluid can do weird things. And then as far as the part youre thinking that you need...are you looking at the TCCM in the kick panel on the passenger side? Or the shift motor on the transfer case itself?

The TCCM is a pretty common thing to fail. The contacts burn up and corrode and you get all kinds of 4wd problems.

You really have to diagnose the problem. If you only have 2HI, 4HI, & 4LO as options (3-button switch) have a look in the Tech Articles (DIY) section for the OBD2 Non-Automatic Transfer Case Diagnostics thread. You can also test the switch and disconnect the electrical connections at the switch, TCCM, and encoder motor to check for corrosion.
