Default Axle Seal needs replacing, help

Hey guys,

I am posting this as I can tell that my front passenger side axle seal is leaking between the inner cv shaft and the solid axle tube that runs to the front differential. I am wondering how hard/expensive it would be to do this job myself, or if it is worth it to take it to the shop. Also if anyone has some detailed directions on how to do this job I would love to see them. Thanks in advance, my truck info is in the signature.

Are you talking about this (looks like probably #2 in the diagram)?

I am not sure if it is the #2 item on that pic or what it is. I just know that it is leaking out of where the Passenger side CV shaft meets that solid axle extension. I was not able to find any good info on this problem in the hayne or chilton manuals I have and am not sure how much work it will be to replace it. I am thinking I might just go to the shop on this one, I am atleast going to call them up on monday to see what it would cost / what the actual bad part is.

i replaced mine on the same side. it was easy, of course i already had my suspension tore apart to do the balljoints. so if youre JUST doing the seal, its probably a pain but if you maintenance to do to the suspension its easy

Yeah I just replaced the balljoints and then this started to happen, so I dont really want to pull all that apart again, but I may end up doing it if it saves $400 or more (which it probably will).
