Default Axles on a SAS

Im looking into doing a SAS, and swapping the rear on my 4dr Jimmy, but not sure if I should use Dana 44 front and rear, or use a corporate 14 rear and Dana 60 front. I would like to be able to run 44 or 47" tires.... any thoughts?

With tires that big definitely run 1 tons no question about it. Look for a Ford/Dodge d60 front if your your going to keep your t-case on the driverside. I'd suggest looking into a 241 swap... or Atlas, Stak, or other aftermarket case for the strength your gonna need with those tires. So i guess it really doesn't matter.

i was also looking at the possibility of running a mated 203/205 transfer case, but i am leaning towards the 1 ton set up just for strength reasons. wouldnt have to worry so much.

X2 on the tons. A tire that big would tear up a Dana 44 pretty quick. A 14 bolt might be ok for the rear, though.

Yeah a 44" tire is pushing the limits of a D60/14 Bolt Combo. D44's would have no chance.

I know a guy that was running 2.5 ton rockwells and 44's and still managed to break something on the rockwells

The blazers are light enough that I would think a D60/14 bolt, or maybe D60s front and rear would hold up. Under a full size, it might not. Depends to on how you plan to wheel. If you're doing some extreme stuff, rockwells would be the way to go.

Now, I'm no expert on any of this. I've just picked up a little from lurking around Pirate 4X4, and doing research for my own SAS. I plan on only running 33"s, though, so I've never really looked much past a D44.

Is your Blazer going to be a pavement truck, or are you going to take it off-road? There are a couple trucks I've seen with D44/10bolt front axles and 44" tires around here, and at least one has been on the road for years. Both are poser trucks mind you.

D60/14FF is my vote on or off-road. A Ford 10.25" is another cheap option for the rear as is a D50 front from a super duty Ford.

Certainly wont be a pavement princess... she will be used and mildly abused. Mostly trail runs and some bogging here and there, but no rocks or sand really.
