Bad Rattle in driver side front
2000 4 Door 4x4 4.3CPI
A little while ago i started to develop a bad rattle in what seems like the front suspension. At first it wasn't to bad but then it started to get a little worse. Now I'm not only concerned about it it annoys the crap out of me. I've gone through the entire front end with a pry bar and my bare hands and cant seem to find anything.
I've checked:
Ball joints Upper and lower(support the lower control arm with a jack stand and take a pry bar and pry the bottom of the tire against the ground)
Sway bar links and bushings
Tie rod ends
Replaced the idler arm. Checked the pit-man arm and it has no play.
The intermediate steering shaft. (reached through the wheel well and wiggled it)
Front differential bushings(they move but return to the normal position like they are supposed to)
Front drive shaft
upper and lower shock bushings. They don't appear to be leaking either.
Replaced both side upper control arm bushings last year, lowers seem fine
There was a special policy that involved inserting a spring washer on the hood hinge bolt. I did that and still an annoying rattle.
From searching all of the other forums and hours on Google I've seen a lot of people say that it could be the torsion bar mounts(the little vertical mounts that suspend the torsion bar cross-member and mount it to the frame.
I took them all apart and and checked all of the rubber in them, no tears or unusual wear. the thing that i did notice though was the cross-member seemed to be shifted slightly toward the drivers side. so that bumper on the torsion bar mount is real close to the frame.
The thing that gets me is that people say the rattle comes from under the seat when those are bad. mine sounds like its almost coming from straight behind the dash area towards the front left suspension. and i can even feel it a bit in the floor pan on dirt roads where there is a lot of sharp small bumps.
This has me thoroughly confused... just when you think you know your blazer... it throws a curve ball
