Default Body mounts replaceable?

This was bought for me as a first vehicle.. 96 blazer 4dr 4wd. 232k on it. Not terrible condition, but i put it through inspection and the body mounts failed it. They aren't my forte so i'm here to get another opinion before i take it somewhere and spend actual money.

I want to know if these are replaceable/repairable done by myself (hopefully), or if big money is going to have to go into it with welding or anything thats out of my ability. I can tell one is in really bad condition, and i don't know whether anybody will be able to tell the depth of damage from rust/corrosion. Just hoping to get an idea

Pretty easy to change them out but takes quite a bit of time and a buddy or two would be very helpful. Download the instructions for a body lift from BDS and do everything to raise the body up but don't worry about replacing/moving certain lines. Once you get the new mounts in just bolt everything up the way it was before. Plan on a good 8 hours with help but easy to do, just very entailed with everything you need to do.

Make sure u get a new set of bolts with everything. I installed side steps on my 4 door and now I gotta find a way to get a broken bolt out...

Hopefully this helps. Entire kit with bolts for about $300-$350
Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

Ive done these on other cars before with just a floor jack and some wood blocks to lift the body up and swap the mounts out.

I just did this on my 96 4 door Blazer along with a 2" body lift and I went with the Prothane Motion Control replacements off Ebay and Wow what a difference. Mine didn't look that bad but I did have one of the bolts break and that was a real pain to drill and tap. I did the work myself but I do have a lift which makes life much easier. Before changing the body mounts my drivers side door would drop a little when you opened it but not no more. It also feels tighter going down the road and takes the bumps and washboard country roads way better now.

thats going to be the biggest problem with doing this job. in a perfect world its just basically removing one bolt per body mount and replacing. i replaced body mounts in a old k5 blazer years ago and every single bolt broke off. so i guess expect the worst.

im glad we dont have inspections in our state, everything i won would fail

Spray with penetration oil for a couple of days once or twice a day. It helps.

I'd also consider brushing and sanding the rust and coat it with a rust primer and paint it before replacing. May need a couple hours to dry before putting it back together.

I'll have to replace mines as well in a years time or so and also one of the frame supports rusted away.

Looks really good, On a scale of 1-10, how much smoother is the ride would you say? What manufacturer did they come from? Red the only colour?

I wouldn't say smoother but tighter and you don't get the body roll feeling when going around a curve changing lanes etc. They are Prothane Motion Control and they do have them in black but I didn't see them in black for $105.

Can anyone recommend an installer in the Northern CA area to install the body bushings/mounts? Thank you chuckrangel@sbcglobal.net
