I recently put 15x8 Pro Comp Rock Crawlers on my 1996 Jimmy. There is less backspacing than the stock rims so they stick outside of the fender a little bit. I went offroading about a week ago and noticed when I hit a dip at speed, the tire was hitting the bottom of the fender. I know for sure my bump stops are deteriorated. I don't know how good my shocks are either, they make noise but they pass the bounce test. However, when riding on rough roads, the suspension seems to bounce around quite a bit. Could my bump stops or shocks be the reason for my tire striking the fender and would replacing them at least help the issue?

Look into the shocks being bad. I recently did mine and they passed the bounce test too, but on rough roads and city bumps it was like a boat. Swapped them for some sensa-tracs and had no issues last night in the mud/dips. (My bump stops are also ****ty)

 

my bump stops in the front are non existent and I hardly ever rub. It may be time to get some new shocks

 

Ugh, money, money, money. It would be nice to have some haha.

 

get some rough country shocks. they are only $35 a shock

 

I was thinking the Rancho RS5000's or the Pro Comp ES9000's. I don't know what I'm gonna do yet, gotta scrape up some cash.

 

Shocks dont raise a veh!! if you put rims that stick out further than stock your def going to rub the fenders, and shocks wont help.. or bump stops for that matter, if you hit a bad enuff dip in the road its going to rub..

 

I know shocks don't raise a vehicle. I just figured that shocks couldn't hurt, if they absorb more of the downward force when a bump is struck, it will be less likely for the tires to hit will it not? That, and if the suspension does get compressed enough to utilize the bump stops, wouldn't it be helpful if I actually had some???

 

New Shocks will def help the veh to ride better, make sure the rest of the front end is ok also. I`m just trying to say depending on the size of a dip in the road, you`ll prob still hit your fenders due to your rims being out further, shocks dont help that drastically.
