Default bought a 1997 s10 blazer that needs new ball joint

title^^

I need to change both lower ball joints, both upper ball joints. someone told me that if I had to change
the upper ball joints, that I must change the upper arm too? is it true? lets just say I would rather pay 20$ than 100$ haha

thanks in advance

No that is not true. The original ball joints are riveted into the control arms, and you have to cut or drill the rivets to get it out. Replacement ball joints come with bolts and just bolt in place with 4 bolts. No need to replace the whole arm. However, I do recommend checking your control arm bushings- if they need to be replaced also it may be worth it to buy the whole set up

Edit: this is assuming it's a 4x4, I have no experience with 2wd front suspension
