Default Can I get posi lock with 4 button 4wd

Well my 4wd has been making a grinding sound on and off lately when I try to engage 4x4. It always engages but I just don't feel like it should be grinding, I heard from a friend that it happens sometimes (jeep guy) but it won't hurt anything. So I was wondering if a posi lock will prevent this grinding? And can I install it I have the 4 button 4wd?

Where is the grinding coming from? Front axle or transfer case? If it's coming from the front axle, you can either fix the problem, do the posi lock, or install a Bravada right axle tube and axle. If you do the posi lock or the Bravada axle swap, you'll need to put a switch in the axle engagement circuit or the TCCM will not keep the transfer case where you shift it. If the noise is coming from the transfer case, none of the above will help.

That grinding thing??? Yeah, like your buddy said, it's a Jeep thing. But don't tell him we understand, he'll get a complex

How can I tell if it's the axle or transfer case?

Edit
How would I put a switch in or where can you explain?

Please elaborate.

I can see using one when doing the Bravada mod, but the Posi-Lok too?

Does the switch you're talking about apply to only the 4 button 4wd or the 3 button also?

Thanks

Woops, too much Holiday cheer last night You would need the switch only if you do a Bravada axle swap. On the right front axle tube, next to where the cable goes in, there is a normally open, SPST, push button switch:

The switch tells the TCCM if the axle is locked in position when 4WD is selected, and not engaged when 2WD is selected. When you select a mode shift, and the switch doesn't change, the TCCM reverts back to the original selection. Not 100% certain if the NV233 3 button system will revert, but the NV236 4 button definitely does.

You would need a SPST, (on/off) toggle switch in the cab to "fool" the TCCM. ON in 4WD, OFF in 2WD.

I was out a few minutes ago and it sounds like it comes from the passenger side in front of me soooo the axle sleeve isn't sliding over so nicely?

Could very well be messed up teeth on the clutch gear, clutch shaft, or clutch sleeve. Probably two of them, maybe all three, are messed up. Gotta pull the tube off to check it out.

Before I start pulling things apart or take it to the shop. Could I Try the posi lock to see if it fixes the prob or can I just keep going like this until it doesn't engage 4x4? Could I mess something up if I did?

If the grinding is due to the clutch shaft etc, the damage is done. It won't matter if the actuator operates the mechanism, or the posi lock, it's still going to grind.

what about just putting a jumper on the sensor plug so that it tells the tccm that the front axle is always engaged? Would that hurt anything?
