Default Clucking noise from rear end

Hey everyone, recently got my 83 K5. After about a month of having it I started noticing a clucking sound from what I believe is coming from the rear end. When I brake and come to a stop I feel and hear it. Then when I left off the brake and accelerate it happens again. Any ideas what this might be? Rear end or transmission?

Welcome to the forum. U-joints make a clunk when they're worn out.

Loose or broken U-Bolts holding the axle to the springs also.

Thought about the u-joints but when I checked they seemed to be tight. I’ll pick the rear end up off the ground and check again.
Ubolts for rear end and springs are tight.

brake internals is another option.

Once lifted it may show when working on it.

BTW: Just to make sure it is not one of the simpler ones.

- Stuff in the rear or in the trunk?
- Spare wheel or jack not fixed
- External spare carrier lock or other

Bowling ball in the trunk. LOL When it's off the ground, have someone put it in drive while you're under it so you can hear where the clunk is coming from. Be safe!

You wouldn't believe how many customers already had some clunking noise in the back and it turned out to be:

- car jack not being fixed
- bowling ball or any similar thingy
- toolbox not being fixed
- spare wheel not being attached (the bolt rusted out of the trunk bottom on one instance)
- rear cover not being fixed correctly
- had a girl once complain about a tingling sound from the rear - was the belt buckle against the side cover hanging loose - afterwards it was clear why the manuf. had put a clip on the seat for the belt.

... and these are either really expensive fixes if you have some shop do the troubleshooting or an easy and free fix if you simply junk out your truck first, maybe even give it a thorough pass with the vacuum and go for a test-ride.

(Cleaning the truck inside and out helps detect a lot of issues BTW.)

Have you checked the oil in the differential? If it's low or empty it would clunk or grind coming to and from a full stop.
