Exclamation Clunk!

When I reverse out of say a parking space, and have to make a hard right or left. I get a clunk when driving forward after having backed up. If I back out and its not a hard turn...there is no clunk. (clunk coming from front end..I think the drivers side, but hard to tell)

Any ideas what it could be....and the price range for fixing it? This old hooptie is making me broke! LOL! Mechanic keeps telling me it's on it's last legs, but its only got a little over 123,000 miles on it.

my first guess would be u-joints...maybe

does it only happen after turning?

Check your shocks and the front body bump stops to see if they are worn or have broken off due to dry rot. When you do a hard left or right turn the chassy dips and may be bottoming out. This could be the clunck sound. Also check the Cv shafts to ensure they do not have play which may also cause the clunk. backing up then going foward may have nothing to do with the problem. I had the same symptum on a hard turn and replaced the bump stop. Didn't clunck after.

Warthog, I have had 1 u joint replaced....could be the other....but the one I replaced made a clink. Only happens after I reverse out of a spot and have to crank the wheel hard. Clunks when I begin to go forward after having turned....almost as soon as I make any forward progress.

Thanx Wrench....I'll check those things
