Default Front Axel

So a while ago my vacuum switch failed doing 70 mph down a highway while towing a sailboat. The result was nashing of metal as the front end tried to engage. I have a 1999 isuzu hombre xs 4.3l v-6 4x4. I replaced the gears in the front end but was unable to get all the metal shavings out, which I am sure a wreaking havok on my bearings. So I am pretty sure the front axel doesn't have many days left on it and will need replacing. My problem is I can't find any specs on my truck, and if a standard s-10 front axel will bolt right up with no issues of gearing differences or bolt spacing issues. My truckes front end I know for a fact is noticeably narrower then an s-10. Also I was thinking, if at all possible, to just do a solid axel swap. Can this be done for my truck or am I just going to run into more headaches then it is worth?
