front carrier to rear end? possible?
Can I buy a front 4x4 axle and use the internals to repair my rear end? (72 12 bolt rear axle)

Short answer is no. For a longer answer, you need to detail what parts it is you need to repair.

I do not believe that GM ever used the 12 bolt as a front axle. For your application, you should have a Dana-44 up front. You cannot use the carrier from a Dana-44 inside a 12-bolt.
