Default front drive shaft slop

hi all,2000 blazer 4x4,4 button auto t/case,weird scraping sound on initial acceleration.i believe its the sloppy cv joint on front drive shaft.this noise happens in 2wd but i believe this shaft is always live.am i correct in that thinking and can i run without the front shaft?thanks

If you are in 2wd (not auto on the 4 button panel) then the front shaft is not engaged on either end and should not be turning. Removing it will not be an issue, except you no longer have 4 wheel drive of course. But if it is making the noise in 2wd then it is not likely the driveshaft causing it. Your CV joints on the axles could be causing it, a bent dustcover on the brakes contacting the rotor, etc.

Some of the auto transfer cases have a slight engagement of the clutch even when in 2WD, yours may be one of them. In any event, pulling the shaft will not cause any issues except no 4X4.
