Exclamation Front end noise is instant on and off

*sigh* 1996 4 dr. 4x4 So... Im on a cruise with my girlfriend going 54 mph and just instantly a grinding/whining noise starts in the front right of the car. I hit my flashers and made my way to a stop but once i got to about 20-15 mph it stopped. i checked everything over and got back in and very slowly made my way onward. 6 hours later when driving home it does it again! exact same thing and also stopped once i was at about 20-15 or 10 mph. This just started today. i have never heard this before.I havnt had a chance today to look at it and wont tomorrow either, so does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be, before I dive into it?

Front right wheel bearing...I had the exact same noise and tore my transfercase apart only to get it all back together and discover it was only front wheel bearing...It starts as a noise that starts and stops randomly..then just turns into a howl later on...When mine forst started to go it only made the noise when doing 90-95 KM/h anything below no noise...any thing faster no noise...so i would check you wheel bearing and to be exact front right.

ok. that sounds about right. I just never heard of one going on and off.. and its not a light hum or anything. its ...loud. my gf was sleeping and it instantly woke her up. It's hard to explain but I will take off my wheel and check my bearing tomorrow. yea. lol. its not a soft noise. instant VERY noticable noise. anyway. thanks for the help. I'll check into it!
