Default Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

Hey everyone,

I have an 01 Chevy Blazer 4WD, and I've been told by a garage that my front wheel bearings are going. Play in the tires and road noise confirm this. The quote I got from the garage was a bit steep for broke college student me, but I've also got no experience touching brake or steering components and would like to do this job safely. SO, a few questions for those in the know:

1) Most importantly, anything I should know delving into this job? Pointers about pulling the caliper off the rotor safely, a good way to pull off the bearing hub, etc

2) What are the torque specs for the hub and brake caliper?

3) Any recommended brands for the bearing assembly? In stock locally I've only got the option of mystery store brands (Napa, O'Reilly), or Moog (with a 3 year warranty) from Auto Zone, $144 each.

Your help is really appreciated!

Moog. Always moog.

Nothing special with assembly and disassembly. Took me about 15 minutes to swap it out. Air tools help. If those aren't available, a long breaker bar will be necessary.

It would be a very wise investment for you to get a manual for your truck. Then you'll have all specs and some directions. A Haynes is ok and runs $20 - $30. It's handy to have at your fingertips. A better manual is an online version of the same manuals the dealerships use. Costs I think under $20 for an annual subscription and the search feature can be very handy. You can find one at alldatadiy.com. The forums can help greatly, but nothing beats having the manuals. Also very helpful can be You Tube videos.
