i believe g80 was a generic gm code for a locker rear end not necessarily a gov-loc, since the g80 code f bodies were provided with the other limited slip style locker by auburn & the later model f bodies with the bullet proof gear style zexel torsen.

I was thinking about doing this, but I was thinking of just getting a whole zr2 rear end but I didn't realize that they were longer but other than that with the right gearing it would work?

I would look into getting an aftermarket locker. I have a G80 in my blazer and it hasnt worked since i got it at 90k miles. The clutch's wear out and are expensive to replace.
