Default G80 repairs

Have a 2001 G80 rear that does not "lock" when there is differential tire spin. I have read as many threads as I could find about it but maybe I did not find them all. Anyway, not trying to re-beat a dead horse...

So I need to fix this differential. Was told it just needs new clutch packs. How difficult is this? Do I need to pull axles? Are there codes on the axle housing that would give me a clue as to if it is truly a G80? If it is a "locking" rear are there clutches and the locking cams?

I had a 1967 Camaro with a 12 bolt Posi and when jacked up both rear wheels would spin in the same direction when rotated by hand. Was told the G80 does not do that. Mine spin in opposite directions.

Any help here would be appreciated. Waiting to hear back from Eaton at the moment also.

Thanks.

Have you confirmed there are clutch packs in the carrier? Gov-loc's do not use clutch packs. They do make going to a limited slip not an option if they fail. Yours may have been replaced/upgraded.

Have not opened up the cover yet. Trying to get some clues prior to doing so...

Supposedly this is a stock 2001 G80 coded rear from the glove box sticker...

Then it should be a 10 bolt, 8.625" ring gear, 3:73 ratio.
