Hi guys,

First post here, I'm sure this is a common question, but I'm new to the website so the search function is hard for me. Hopefully someone can post a link or help me out.

I just bought a 2000 Blazer ZR-2, 119k miles. When turning in reverse, there is a click/grind coming from the rear. It also happens when turning sharp or slow while going forward. When going forward I can't tell if it's coming from the outside front tire, or the rear again. It has agressive tires on it (Wide Track Radial Baja XT) so I can't tell if it's just the tire nubs rubbing during the turn and making vibration, or something worse.

My concern with it happening in reverse is that it is the rear differential, and with it going forward is the CV joints. Am I on the right track here?

I jacked the truck up and gave each wheel a spin and hard shake, and none were loose, so I think the ball joints are still ok.

Have you checked the U-joints on your drive shaft? Mine made a clicking sound in reverse before I replaced them.

 

No I haven't, those would make sense though since it's kind of intermittent, like once per drive shaft rotation.
