I read if the front and rear gear ratio are different you could blow your 4 wheel drive out. I see that the GU6 rear end has a 7.5 and 8.5 ring gear. I have a 7.5 my 2000 blazer. If I get a 8.5 from a salvage yard would this damage my truck, will it help my truck, or neither?

You can get the 8.5 rearend as long as it have the GU6 axle ratio. The rearend won't hurt your truck but it'll be stronger than your stock 7.5".
