How can i tell if the shocks are bad?
I have the shocks out of my truck. I press down and the don't come back up. I have a set of 4 used rancho shocks and a set of 4 used trailmaster shocks that came with the lift kit that when i press all of them em down they don't come up. Is this how all the shocks work? How can i tell if the shocks are bad? I'm getting different answers from a bunch of people.
on the back. jump up and down on your bumper (gently, don't break anything), then jump off and if it takes more than 1-2 bounces to stop your shocks are shot. same thing for the front but i'd push and not jump. thats the way i tell. there's probably a more sophisticated way to tell
but that'll work
but that'll work

tony, you should have a tough time getting the shocks to compress by hand-and should open right back up upon release.
if you can push them down with ease, and they just sit thre, then they're FUBAR. time to replace them.
and in regards to your last question, if anyone is givng you any answer other than what i just said (even what Spectreblazer said is a good test-when they're in a vehicle), then they really don't know what they're talking about, and it's probably best to not ask them for any mechanical assistance again.
Spectreblazer, did you not read his post? the shocks are out of his truck.

missed the first sentence. but yeah if you can push them down with ease looks like its time to replace them.
