How to tell if front wheel bearings are bad ?
How do you know if your front wheel bearings are starting to go ?? I am asking because i had a front end shake ( Like a wheel out of balance ) So i had the front wheels balanced and i still have the problem. It is there all the time and some times not as bad, Thanks for any help.
my driver's side front bearing is going bad..I have known it for a while..started out as an intermittent vibration...got more steady and is starting to be noisey..not grinding yet..(hopeing to replace it soon) this will be my second wheel bearing gone bad..so I guess is it just shaking, or making noise?

One way to see if there is play is to jack up only the side you are inspecting (so that only that wheel is off the ground). By putting your hands at 3 & 9 o'clock on the wheel, see if you can feel play. If you can, this is most likely the tie rod end (but could be the tie rod end on either side). When you put your hands at 12 & 6 o'clock on the wheel and check for movement, this would be your wheel bearings and/or ball joints (wheel bearings being the more prevalent cause of this type of play). If the vehicle is 2wd, you can further 'feel' for problems by spinning the wheel and feeling for 'grittyness'.
