Default I consulted "4x4 no worky", but have some other questions

So I was having problems with my 1996 S10 Blazer 4x4 and consulted the "4x4 no worky" thread for help. I got everything working TCCM wise, and vacuum actuator wise, but the issue now is that the vacuum actuator does not disengage when I click the vehicle back out of 4x4, so that the front differential stays engaged at all times. I unplugged the vacuum line that feeds the actuator and plugged it with a golf tee so that I can drive without the front end engaged for now.

Where do I go now? Is the issue with the 3 pronged vacuum switch that comes out of the transfer case?

If you're still getting vacuum on the line to the actuator when 2wd is selected then yes you need to replace the vacuum switch on the transfer case. It's a bit of a pain to access but hopefully it will rectify your problem.

Ya it's definitely buried up there. Before I take it out is there specific positioning for each of the three hoses when I put the new switch in? Also, what exactly is that switch called for when I go to the parts store?

Also any specific brand I should get? People on the advance auto site were saying the cheapo one they got there was leaking transfercase oil past the switch and into the HVAC system. Needless to say, I think I'm all set with that.

Check out this writeup from the S10 CrewCab site. It's a great writeup with pictures on replacing the vac switch with the updated model and includes both the old and new part numbers. I'm pretty sure that the hose connector is keyed so it will only install onto the switch in one direction. Just don't pull each individual hose off the connector.

Thanks for the help. I opted for a 4x4 Posi-Lok system after doing some research here on the forum. I don't want to be in the position where I have to rely on vacuum operated components anymore.

Could you provide some details on this 4x4 Posi-Lok system you installed; think I might be interested in something like this as well.

@Lanny, it just came in the mail today. I bought it on EBay at a greatly reduced price. I have included the link to the install instructions. It seems pretty painless outside of having to drill the hole in the firewall and run the cable, plus it mounts neatly to the underside of the dash right in hand reach. I will let you know what I think about it after it is installed.

@lanny this link goes to a thorough explanation of the install. S-10 Front Diff & Posi-Lok Operation Explained - S-10 Forum
