Default List of transfercases

Can someone give me a list of all the transfercases that s10s and s10 blazers use?

Here's a snippet from a post I am currently putting together:
4wd Transfer Cases:
  • NV231 - 2 speed manual shift transfer case.
  • NV233 - RPO NP1 - 2 speed electronic shift transfer case. This transfer case was offered in both the 1st gen and long into the 2nd gen life cycle. In the 2nd gens, a 3-button switch was used which had 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO buttons. Most 1st gens had a 2-button switch with 4HI and 4LO. 2HI was selected by pressing the currently selected 4wd mode switch a second time.
  • NV236 - RPO NP8 - 2 speed electronic shift transfer case used in the Auto4wd applications. This transfer case has a viscous clutch that allows for an AWD type application of torque to the front axle. Used in the 98+ trucks. Can be either identified by the tag on the back or by the 4-button switch on the dash.

AWD Transfer Cases:
  • NV136 RPO NP4 (NV126?) - 1 speed electronic shift transfer case used in AWD applications. This transfer case has a viscous clutch that can apply 100% torque to the rear all the way to 50/50 front/rear. This transfer case was used in the 98+ Olds Bravada, but could have made it into the 98+ Blazer & Jimmy if so ordered (stranger things have happened).
  • BW4472 - 1 speed dedicated AWD transfer case. This transfer case had a dedicated torque split. The split is anywhere between 30/70 and 35/65 f/r depending on where you are looking. This transfer case (and the BW1372) were used in the pre-98 AWD trucks (Astro/Safari, Typhoon, Syclone, Bravada, and, Blazer - yes, Blazer)

There were no NP20x transfer cases used in the s-series trucks.

NV & NP are interchangeable. Describes the same thing.

If this is your 2001, you either have the NV233 or the NV236. The RPx codes that are listed above correspond with the RPO codes for your vehicle. These will be visible on your RPO sticker inside your glove box or via CompNine.com's vin decoder.

For the '94, you would either have the NV233 or the NV231.

For the '87, I think the only option was the NV231.

If this is a loose transfer case that you do not know where it came from, it could be a number of different possibilities. If it has an aluminum case, then it likely is the NP208 which was used in the fullsize trucks. The NP203 and NP205 are cast iron cased transfer cases. The NP203 in its original configuration is a full-time 4wd transfer case with a separate range box attached to the front output drop box. The NP205 is a gear driven part-time case.

Um NP 207 were used in s-series. The 231 wasn't offered til later on like around 89 or 90 I think. The NP 207 was used in all t-10s from 1983 to the change over whatever it was.

Guess I didn't go back far enough. I stopped at '89 in my research.

For a 91 its gonna be a 231 or 233 I bet. Does it have a shifter stick on it?

Most guys trash the 207 for a 231 anyways. The 231 has a stronger chain in it. I'm gonna do the swap if I keep the driver side front diff but I haven't been able to break my 207 and I've been pretty hard on it.

Ya my 91' has a 231 and it has a shifter stick...

And can a 207c be replaced with a 231? Would it just bolt right up to the transmission? I want the 231 from the 91' blazer to go on my 87' blazer. Would it matter if the 91' blazer is automatic and my 87' blazer is a 5 speed?

And i was wondering what type of 5 spd. transmission the 1st gen s10 blazers have?
