np 236 trouble

i have a 2000 gmc jimmy with a np 236 transfer case. the case will shift in auto 4wd and 4 hi. have tested in 4hi the front end pulls, but cannot get it to shift in to 4lo. what could cause this?

could be one of the sensors, i think there are two of them, or the shift motor is the area i would start looking,dont forget about the wiring,loose or a broken connection
