Placing Steering Shaft back in
Driving a 99 GMC Jimmy
Having issues with reinstalling steering shaft after replacing new rag joint (steering coupler).
Background:
Steering wheel had play in it. Steering wheel would turn about 2inches before actually moving wheels.
I pulled out the steering shaft that has the rag joint connected to the end. I cut off the rivets and installed the Lares 205 coupler. When I was going to reinstall it, there was a gap on either end of the shaft. If I placed it all the way on the splines (rag joint end) it will not reach the intermidiate shaft. Placing it on the intermidiate shaft means it won't reach the splines.
My thought was that I needed to pull the intermidiate shaft out some, but it will not pull out anymore.
Am I missing something? Tried looking for videos or forums with a similar issues without much luck.
