Default Popping out of 2hi

2001 Blazer 4 door 4x4 96k

Yesterday when I took off from a stop light i heard the familiar clunk of the 4 wheel drive engaging. I pushed the 2hi button and it re-engaged with no problem. Today the truck popped into 4hi twice while driving in a parking lot. Im new tojob blazer and would appreciateto any suggestions on the cause of this situation?

Did it feel like it went into neutral?

Nope never feels like it went in neutral. Its feels just like I purposely pushed the 4hi on the fly. I know its actually engaging because when it happened once I was turning into a parking spot and could feel the front axle dragging.

Dash switch could be going bad.

are you sure its not the t-case vac switch engaging your front axle? they are known to go bad and cause the front axle to engage or partially engage in 2hi.

This is the most likely cause of your problem. Check the accuator vacuum hose while the engine is running, and in 2wd. If there is any vacuum there at all then the vac switch on the transfer case is bad. The actuator is under the battery tray. You may have to unbolt it and pull it out where it is accessible while the truck is off to test it.

I just had the actuator switch and canister replaced at a shop, felt confident the problem was solved, but then I heard a clunk at work too, hit the 2 high switch, went about 5 miles then while driving at 30 mph it switched to 4H again. Fingers crossed till I can get it back in.
