cv axle could be grinding when you turn. i know it happens with a suspension lift if you dont get longer cv's

Could it be your control arm bushings? Cv axle would be more of a click click click than a pop (at least in my experience). I know that the bushings cause a pop/clunk sound any time the load changes on the front end (turning, accelerating, stopping) so it might be something to check on. If they are dried out and cracked you might want to look at replacing them eventually. Also, make sure the hood bolts/pins are tight (dumb as it sounds, its actually a common issue on these, and when the bolts are loose it sounds like a bad ball joint.) When your truck pops, do you feel it through the steering wheel?
