Default Rebuild or replace the dash buttons?

Finally figured out why mine was stuck in 4wd, the buttons on the dash have gone bad according to the scanner. The mechanic was able to move it through the different modes with his scanner so the actuator and transfer case motor work fine.

Has anyone replaced there dash assembly/buttons before for the auto4wd? He reccomended sending it off and having it rebuilt rather than buying a new part.

Id just buy new, anywhere but a dealer and the part will be covered anyways and there pretty cheap.

Test it to make sure that is the actual cause and not a connection/wiring issue. The resistances are posted in other threads (click here for one of them).

yeah mine was going bad too. the little orange light would go out so i would flick it on the X of the "4x4" and it would work again for 5-10 minutes. i found it on ebay for cheap. just look for the auctions with no reserve. i paid $4.25 for it and $4.25 for shipping. not bad huh, and it works like new.

Haven't gotten around to buying one yet... tell me if ya'll think this is the switch problem still though... It was in 2hi and I pressed the 2hi button while driving and it put it into auto4wd.

Does that still sound like a switch problem or something else in the system?
