Regearing the Truck
Im going to be doing my BDS 5" lift in the next couple weeks. My question is, with 33s, will 373 gears be enough or should I do 411s? I dont wheel the truck and i do all highway driving. Im trying to figure out if 411s are gonna kill gas mileage worse then it already is haha.....any input is appreciated.
This is from Kyle in a thread awhile back:
If you want to keep your current overall ratio to the ground, then you take your wheel change in % and apply it to your gears, then find the closest match.
It really depends on where you are now (tire size and gear ratio), where you are going, and what you want it to do.
So if you are going from a 28" tire to a 30" tire, that is a ~7% change. To get that back in gear ratio, if you started with 3.73, you would need to go to 4.00:1 which will go up to 4.10's since 4:1 would be custom. If you are starting from 3.42, then 3.73's would be appropriate.
IMO, go with the larger tires and see how the vehicle responds.

I also do alot of highway driving and I am going through this same thing right now... you are gonna want 4:11s or even 4:56s with 33"s. The only problem with 4:56s is that I don't believe anyone makes them for the front.
i planed on reagering to but know that i have my 33s on im grad i dint waste the money. My 3.42s are fine. My only problem is big long hills other than that i dont have a problem. I would wait and see how it is after the tires.
Do you currently have 3.73's right now? If so, wait and see how you like them with 33's. If you plan on regearing at the same time as doing the lift, go with 4.10's.
With that being said, being as you only do highway driving and don't plan on offroading, you'll be more than fine with 3.73's. I currently have 33X10.5's with 3.73's and the truck runs just fine. Although, I do plan on regearing sometime in the near future to 4.10's.
Yukon makes 4.56 gears for our IFS and rear.

I have 3.73's in my K5 with 33x12.5 tires and it goes down the road just fine. With a 2:1 low range, it handles offroad tasks very well too. Since my 14BFF rear axle has 4.10's, I will be installing 4.10's into my D44 front (until I can find a D60 front).
I agree with AJBert though, do not make a change until you see how you like it with the current gear set.
