sas vs ifs

Ok i have been debating this for a couple of weeks now and i am torn.I can go with jeep front and rear diffs with the coil set up or i could go with a 6 in ifs lift. What should i do and what would be cheaper?I am a mechanic and where i work i get my lifts for cost but if i do sas conversion i am going to put in a ton of man hours.I am stuck!!

If you are looking for a weekend project and the truck is your daily driver/occasional mud truck then I would say IFS. But if you want just a mud truck then go with the SAS, but like you said it's going to be a lot of man hours. Not saying you can't daily drive a SAS, but it's a lot of down time not having your daily.

I would also add, what axles are you looking at? If you are going to say D30 and D35, do the suspension lift. Those axles are no stronger than what you currently have under your vehicle.

it will be a daily driver but when we do go out and play it will get rode hard, but right now when we ride it hard i end up always fixing something.

sas or ifs wont matter much in that respect if you are going to play hard you are going to pay for it, that being said the factory ifs is garbage and I fully intend to sas mine as soon as I can find something else to drive daily for awhile since I am doing a total makeover (frame off, sas and v8 all in one fell swoop)
If you take your time gathering parts and wait for the right deal sas can be MUCH cheaper than the 5" or 6" kits for the ifs (found a 89 wagoneer on craigslist for $200 with factory 4.56 dana 44 front and rear) brought it home yanked both axles and scrapped the rest for $120 so for a grand total of $80 i got 2 dana 44 axles. Patience is key if you are going the budget route though.

the logical thing to do is high pinion dana 44 in the front and 9" ford in the rear but where i live the scrap yards do not carry such a thing so i am going to have go with the newer jeep diffs and then beef them up later.

I'm running 10 bolts front and rear wwith 33 14.00 boggers and beat the crap out of it for a few years and havet broke anything. But they are wwide as hell. Even a sas has the cool factor when daily driving it. I spet about I'd guess 80 hrs building mine from scratch. Had 90% of the parts layin around so it as cheap too
