Default Steering shaft telescoping

If I remove the intermediate shaft end from the steering box will the 2 pieces come apart so I can get the rag joint out. There is a scary rubber boot on the column end that my fat hands want to avoid. 99 4dr 2wd

Been so nice I paid for it twice

Slide it towards the firewall then move it up out of the way and then slide it back down towards the headlights, make sure your steering is locked so you don't ruin your SIR coil.
