i have a 2000 2wd. disc brakes all the way around, i've done a number of brake jobs and have never seen double pistons on a caliper before... i asume they need to be collapsed at the same time??

Well... common sense says yes.
I'm not too sure, haven't had to do front brake work yet.

If you try to press one in at a time it will push the other out. Just use one of the old pads across both pistons to press them in evenly.

I just get a scrap piece of wood and lay across the pistons and press them in with a c-clamp. Not much different than a single piston caliper.
