Is it necessary to drain fluids from transmission and tranfer case before disassembly. Any otheer tips on pulling transmissions?

 

It's not necessary if you don't mind making a mess. I don't drain the transfer case and can get it out with very minimal loss if done carefully. I drain the transmission before removing because it usually needs done anyway and it's easier when it's not on the ground.
