Default Tie Rod Ends

I have a 98 4dr 4wd that I'm getting ready to replace the tie rods. I haven't looked under mine to see if I have the straight or offset ones yet. Just wondering why GM changed them. Is one type better then the other? If I am changing the rod can I choose which ones?
Thanks

You should use the same ones that are on your truck initially. They likely changed them to improve steering geometry, but the change may have also included other parts. That is why it is best to keep exactly what you have in there now.
