Default transfercase

ok 89 chevy blazer 5 speed 2.8 lately when i shift into 4x4 and then shift out my transfercase is not releasing the inside lights show only 2 wheel drive but the front axle light is still on and front driveshaft still spins and i get a little vibration thats why i know it is still active.. so i climbed under and pulled the three hose plug off top of trans case and it releases but this is the only way i can get it to release now ??? i have done the whole forward n back thing and nothing works besides pullin hte lines letting out suction or what have you and going on my way... actuator going bad ???

Your transfer case is likely working as it should, but your front axle is not disengaging. This is likely due to a sticking front axle engagement cable. It runs from the vacuum actuator on the passenger inner fender to the front axle.

As stated, just lube it up and then keep it lubed. Some seriously stuck cables may need to be completely removed in order to get them freed up properly.

This could also be caused by a broken return spring inside the front axle engagement housing (held on by 3 bolts to the side of the differential).
