I have an o1 blazer, with a 4 button transfer switch. When i changed the fluid in the t case Chevy sold me autotrac II fluid(I think it was autotrac II, but know it was blue) I found this RPO but don't know what it means,
NP8 17423 P TCD R TRANSFER CASE ACTIVE, TWO SPEED, PUSH BUTTON CONTROL
I'm getting ready for winter and am trying to figure out how exactly it works and what it's going to do when I lose traction, before I go sliding down the road out of control.

Auto 4wd AUTOmatically engages the Front wheels when it senses the rears slipping. So its 2WD until it senses slippage and goes into 4WD.
Edit: Oh and its a Fulltime thing. So you can run it on pavement and nothing will happen until the rears slip. Great for winter in slow speed enviroments. You stop at a light, then go and start slipping, the 4wd kicks in and once you are good to go it goes back to 2WD.

Been explained (by me) a number of times. Here's one instance:
Search FTW!!
As far as the engagement goes when in Auto4wd, there should be a slight delay, but in most trucks, it is very slight, almost unnoticeable. If you are driving on snow covered roads, use 4HI to remove any delay. In varying weather where there may be dry/wet roads and patches of ice/snow, use Auto4wd.
When you select 4HI or 4LO, the transfer case locks the front output clutch and delivers true 50/50 torque split F/R. The TCCM does not look at the speed sensor outputs to determine what position to put the clutch pack in.
The Auto4wd mode will engage the front axle, but leave the transfer case in 2wd. The NV236 transfer case is equiped with a clutch for the front output. It can vary the torque transmitted to the front axle depending on the slip detected by the speed sensors on the front and rear outputs of the transfer case.

mine works very well, and the auto funtion is almost invisible when
selected.
and yes on the autotrac fluid, i have read that its different that ATF
but i have also read that it is the same only a different color , so at $8.00 a bottle from GM i did not want to chance a transfer case problem..
