Default rear shocks

What is the best way to go about removing the rear shocks on a first gen to replace them. I took a quick look at the top of the shocks and it seems like there are 2 small bolts holding the shock to a bracket. It doesnt seem all that easy to access though. Anyone have any good tips or tricks?

Looks like fun. Check "this" out. Shows all kinds of room. Maybe just really small hands.

They can be fun. Especially if the shock extension tube cover is still there.

I am surprised at the access that picture shows on AutoZone's website...

this new forum stuff is killing me. lol. Cant wait till all the bugs are worked out.

anywho, there definitely is NOT that much room as what is shown in that pic. Maybe if I took the gas tank out. Even then it wouldnt be that much.

I used vice grips on the top and a 2 foot long extension on my ratchet when I did the ones on my 1st gen just clamped the vice grips as tight as possible and slowly turned with the ratchet til vice grips wedged tight and turned until everything fell off (or broke) lol had a cpl break they were so old and rusty. But I had room to turn without bashing my knuckles 1000 times.

Well it looks like I need to do a body lift anyways so maybe I will just replace the rear shocks at the same time. lifting the body should gain me some extra room
