Default Torsion Bar Crank vs. Torsion Bar Key Lift

I need to get the front end of my 02 ZR2 Blazer raised up. I know I either need to go in and crank my torsion bars or that I need to install new torsion bar keys to get the needed lift. Is one of those options better then the other or will the have the same effect on my ZR2? What kind of negative impact could doing those things have on my ZR2?

torsion keys will allow you more room to crank your bars up... Thats what i have done on mine... the negative effects is a stiffer ride and it puts more stress on the cvs... here is a picture of mine with torsion crank, add-a-leaf, and 31's...

True the main difference is new torsion keys is going to make the front end stiffer. Add a leaf is going to make your rear stiffer. So I think it all depends on what your doing. If you are going to do a shackle lift in the rear then I would keep your stock keys. But if you are doing a add a leaf to the rear then I would get new torsion keys. That way your suspension is nicely evened out.

Stock torsion keys + Shackles = Stock suspension ride

New Torsion Keys + Add a leaf = Stiffer suspension ride

But I'm no rocket scientist

All torsion keys do is let you crank the t-bars PAST the stock maximum...

You're gonna be replacing balljoints, CV axles and stuff more often...

if you are dead set on cranking and want to buy torsion keys, you should consider a rough country 2" suspension lift.... It has new torsion keys with it, however, it comes with new upper control arms. The new upper control arms hold your upper ball joints at a different angle to greatly reduce wear on them... They will still wear out, just not nearly as quick as they will with your stock upper control arms and a torsion bar crank.

Go to a local truck shop, and they should be able to set you up...

I'd like to know if the stock torsion keys from a ZR2 are the same as the ones from an LT blazer...Would I benefit at all from using the ZR2 keys on my LT?
