Default 20's with tire size?! Help!!!

Not long ago, I put some 20's (20x8.5)on lay-a-way for my boring 02 Blazer. Tires they want to give me are p245/40/r20. I was not sure this was a good idea & someone just told me I need a taller tire like at least a 255 or expect to me mad as h** due to busted tire/bent rim. Suggestions please!!!

well a taller tire would be like a 245/50 or 245/55 a 255 tire is wider. the first number is the width and the 2nd number is the height of the tire. and yes a 40 will have a thin side wall.

well both right. The second # is % of the first, which is measure of sidewall to sidewall width -not tread- in MM .
Reading A Tire Sidewall

So a 255 would have a taller sidewall than a 245.. not much but some.

I'm old school though.. If I dont see brake rotors rim to rim I think 'Ricer'

Remember.. you also need to consider overall tire height

I saw someone else here had 20's with 275/46/20 and it looked nice.

*can't find that blazer pic with those tires but I think it might have been 4x4, mine is not. So not sure if that would make a difference.

I guess when I go make a payment I'll ask them for a taller tire.
