1989 S10 Blazer 4.3L V6

All my original center caps are broken and can are no longer be used. l'd like to buy new ones. The same kind as the original. I'm afraid they would end up like the old ones. Tire shops don't care about your vehicle and I'm sure that's why they all were destroyed. Can they safely be removed? I could just remove them my self before having the tires serviced. My wheels are original and have that little fin around each lug nut. Thanks.
