Rim Width and Tire Width
Most tires are but you can get skinny ones like 33x10.50 and 32x11.50. Good for cutting thru mud, less rolling resistance. I thought about getting a set like that on some spare wheels for offroading alone. On 16 inch rims alot of people run 265/75 tires which are about 10.4 wide. You should be able to do the same with 15's.
But on 8 inch wide rims, some people do run a 12.50 width tire. But they tend to wear uneven and have some problems. A general rule of thumb I always heard was not to run tires more than 3 inches wider than the rims on a DD. Unless it's just a offroad machine only or a special situation like a drag car.
