I bought a set of Kumho ATs last month via tirerack and I absolutely love them. I was real skeptical at first /w price and name but after reading the reviews I thought what the hell and bought them. For the money you can beat them, an agressive tread and very low road noise.

 

I don't believe the difference between a 28" tire and a 28.9" tire will cause those issues in any measurable sense. Maybe a jump from 28" to 30", but still, the difference would be minimal. Especially considering that the shift algorithms in the trans are adaptive. The computer will adapt to small changes.

It is better to have the proper setting in the PCM, but I don't think that it is imperative if the size is within +/-5%. And most dealers won't do this change due to liability.

As far as tire recommendations, I have always liked the Dunlop Radial Rover A/T and that is what I plan on putting on my Bravada. I'll be moving up from a P235/70R15 to a LT235/75R15.

 

those dunlops look like sumthin id buy, have u driven them in the snow...cuz i live in wisconsin and it does that abouta third of the year

 

Lets keep this in perspective.
The computer doesn't know you have bigger tires unless you tell it you have bigger tires. It wont do anything different. Your mileage will change becuase your odometer is off, and your speedometer is also off. Nieher are a big deal, unless your pretty **** about monitoring your fuel mileage and running at the exact speed limit or at the very edge of getting a ticket.

3% is not enough to cause any real issues. Performance or otherwise. Instead of shifting at exactly 45 mph your actually shifting at 43.65mph. However, the puter doesn't know that your only going 43.65mph. It still thinks your going 45mph. Instead of crusiing at 65mph at 2000 rpms, your actually at 2000 rpms and going 67 mph. Again the puter doesn't know the difference. It still sees 200rpms, and 65 mph. The cop on the other end of the radar gun might not see it that way. So watch that speed.

If that is a big deal for you, pay the .2 of a hourof labor rate at the dealer and have them reprogram the puter with the proper tire size. Or fork out hte $350 bucks for a programmer and do it yourself.

I myself watch my gas gauge, when it gets low, I add gas. Over 100,000 miles my odometer is off by 3,000 miles. I am not too worried about it.

Yes, you can lose fuel mileage due to larger tires, and thus more wind under the truck, loss of airodynamics. However this is a truck, not a sports car. Your airodynamics arent that great to begin with.Besides,if you went from teh 235/75R15 to the 30" tires you gained a 1/2" more gournd cleanace. So now your at 8" instead of 7.5".

If we were talking about going from stock to 33" or bigger. yea, then it startsto become a concern. Although my '87 with the 2putt8V6 engine and 33" tires doesn't complain unless I am on theinterstate trying to do 60 on thespeedo. Teh speedo only goes to 70 anyways. Not like the truck has much top end to begin with.

 

i could definitly use the clearance my 91 isnt all that high off the ground i dont plan on doin any xtreme off roading or anything but like i said....it snows a lot up here im sure u guys in canada kno wut im talking about its hard driving in a foot of snow with bald stock street tires

 

Hanr3 u have pretty much the same truck as me i think xcept urs is a 93-or the 87 (its the same body at least) wut kinda tires u got on that thingi wuz lookin through ur pics

 

I had the Dunlop Radial Rover A/T on my old '97 Ram 4x4 and that truck drove through snow like it was nothing. They did good in the mud as well, but not as good as other, more open treads. I never got stuck while using that truck when I was helping my dad on his farm and I towed a lot of wagons of straw out of muddy fields with it.

Good thing about them is that with the solid center rib, they wore very evenly and won't wear as fast as a similar compound with a more blocky tread. Another good thing about them on my Ram was that they were practically silent when cruising down the road! Much better than the more open tread on the out going tires (some off brand Apache or something like that).

 

the noise doesnt bother me my truck already makes so much noise all the weather stripping is about to fall off so i got wind comin in from everywhere and my brakes squeal like no other...noise doesnt bother me i just want the best tire i can put on my truck without spending 200 per tire

 

Oh man that is going to be so hard to answer. I have a '87, a '93, and a '00 S10-Blazer.
Which tires will depend on which pic your looking at, and which wheels are on it.
On the '00 I typically run the BFG All-Terrains in 30". However I did put those wheels and tires on my '87 to go wheeling at the Badlands off-raod park. I took the Michelin XLT off the '87 and put them on the '00, and right now the Michelins are on the '93. I also had a set of Cooper Discovery ST on the '87 and due to a recall ended up getting a set of Cooper Discovery SST for the ;87 which are currently on it. Those tires are 285/75R16 (33"). I have pics of the Michelins on all three trucks, and the BFG on the '87 and the '00. The Coopers have only been on the '87. Which pics are you talking about, and which truck?

Then the '87 has the Cooper Discovery SST 285/75R16 (33") tires,
The '93 has the MichelinsXLT in 235/75R15,
and the 'oo has the BFG All-Terrains in 30"x9.5" size.

 

I have the GoodYear Wranglers fromabove on my truck right now. The ONLY complaint I have is the front tires squeal going around a corner( as If you were trying to make them squeal) I went back to the dealer and the tire guy there asked what tire I had and before I said anything he guessed witch ones I had. He said they all are doing that. His Sierra has the same tires and his do it too. Never really been offroad except a little mud but been through ALOT OF SNOW last year and never had a problem. Good tire though.
