Tires messing up tranny?? WHAT???

To answer your original question....

Your buddy might be referring to the additional strain put on the transmission when you go to a larger diameter wheel/tire and do not re-gear your differentials appropriately. The engine name is properly spelled as "Vortec". So yes, your buddy could be right in his thoughts that bigger tires will screw your transmission up.

At the very least it will shorten your transmission's life without any modifications. Changing tire size affects a lot in a vehicle, especially going to a 33" tire.
