A word of caution though... no shop will touch your wheels after you put on spacers. They don't want the liability. But spacers should work fine if you torque them to spec. You might have already known this, but just wanted to say it just in case.

You're correct. A 1.5 inch spacer should level out the stance.

Haha, cheating the system in a way. But yeah, that should work. You aren't changing anything in the suspension, just pushing the wheel out more kind of like adding less backspacing. You can get the alignment first and then put the spacers on.
