What works good to strip the old clear coat off my aluminum rims. I tried a wire brush in my drill but that will take forever. There must be some chemical that will remove it. thanx. wnk.

Be sure that if/when you do this that you do so in a VERY well ventilated area. I did this on a set of 1st Gen Dodge Intrepid rims and some of the paint was an epoxy coating which didn't come off anywhere near as well as the clear coat. I ended up having to sand blast them to get them clean. rabbit0102030 03-27-2007, 10:41 PM Isn't there an acid you can use too? I vaguely remember back in my car washing job in high school, something about an acid that will remove tar, and clearcoat from wheels. EuroGoldLS 03-27-2007, 11:14 PM don't use anything with HCl acid in it. Ever seen a 'works' bomb? The acid reacts with the aluminum foil and gives off a gas that blows up the bottle. Aluminum is destroyed by certain acids. Peco 03-31-2007, 12:05 PM Heres a how to: http://www.thepontiactransampage.com/clear.html |
