Front pinion seal leaking. 1999 Blazer
1999 Blazerthe front pinion seal is leaking and needs replacing. My Haynes manual covers the rear pinion seal replacement only. Absolutely nothin on the front diff. Also checked my LMC truck catalog for a replacement seal and again the front diff isn't listed or covered. What's up? Anyone replaced a front pinion seal and where did you find instructions and torque specs etc??

I replaced mine on a 2001 LT 4x4, it wasn't too difficult. I thought the instructions were in the Haynes manual, but I have a Helm manual as well and might be getting confused... basically the torque spec is you read what torque is necessary to rotate the pinion using the nutbefore you make the change (in inch-pounds) and then when you reassemble it you tighten the nut until you get the same torque reading (plus 2-3 inch pounds I believe). Just make sure you mark the end of the driveshaft at the transfer case before removing (to get re-assembly orientation), then after that's out make sure you mark the pinion nut, threads, and yoke so that they can all go back on the same way, relative to the mark (everything needs to line up like before). I found a nice piece of 2-inch PVC pipe cut down is useful for driving the new seal in without damage.

Thanks, it appears they use the same procedure on the front as they do on the rear.
