Pinion bearing

Pinion bearing
So I changed the ujoints in my 2000 blazer a few months ago and when I did them I noticed the pinion shaft had a fair bit of play. Blazers been parked for a while and I just dug it out and put a new tires on it and doing the shocks and some front end work on it getting it all fixed up for a nice street legal kidder and hunting truck and want to get this bearing fixed to. Did some reading and found out there's an inner and outer bearing And the outer can be changed from the front but to do the inner requires going from the back does anyone have a step by step thing to help me out in changing this is it possible it's only the outer bearing and how would I tell?

You're going to want to pull the whole thing apart. If the outer bearing had excessive play for any amount of time, the inner bearing took too much force. It's easier to change the races with access from the back and it lets you inspect everything else. Timken bearings and seals with new lube will ensure you get in and back out of wherever you hunt. Some you tube videos can take you through gm 10 bolt differential much faster than reading a description. If yours is a zr2, specify 8.625" or 8.5" ring.
