1987 S10 Blazer still won't run
I installed new timing chain, sprockets, and chain dampner. I have spark and fuel at injecters at throtle body. I tried turning it over befor re-installing cover, water pump, and it still won't fire. I lined up timing marks as best I could. any suggestions. Paul
it's possible i put the distributor back in wrong, I lined up the timing marks befor I installed the new chain and sprockets. A freind suggested I pull the number one plug and put a rag in the hole and crank the engine till the compression blows it out to find compression stroke and than pull dist. cap and see which cylinder is lined up with the rotor tab, and go fromthere. Paul
You needed to have the engine at No. 1 cylinder TDC and the valves to No.1 both closed (cam in correct position) and then line up the marks on the crank and cam. Did you do this? If not you may have the cam and crank out of sync. The easiest way to check this is to put No. 1 piston at TDC and pull the valve cover and check if both valves are closed on No. 1. Don't know your level of experience with engine buildup so I'm not trying to be insulting.
Thanks for all the help. After I found the compression stroke for the #1 cylinder, I pulled the distributor cap off again. The rotor was pointing to next cylinder. I pulled the distributor out again and set the rotor back to #1 cyl. put dist. back on and it fired right up and ran. Just have to get a new harmonic balancer and I can wrap everthing up and check with timing light. Thanks again, Paul
